Awarding of second schorlarships on 14th March 2015

On 14th March 2015, the Master Communicators’ Welfare Association (MCWA) awarded scholarships worth KSHS 104, 940 to two deserving MA Communication students. The two beneficiaries were; Joy Mutuku who received KSHS 64, 940 and Peter Francis Muroki who received KSHS 40, 000 moved the audience to tears with their heart touching stories, especially that of fear to drop out of the MA Communication program due to financial challenges. The guest of honour, Michelle Nenkai, herself a PhD Communication student at Daystar University lauded the initiative of MA Communication students coming together to support their brothers and sisters in need.

The MCWA is a welfare group founded on 14th March 2013 by one MA Communication class under the patroness of Sr. Dr. A. L. Lando in an attempt to provide a lasting solution to the perennial school fees plight of a number of MA Communication students in Daystar University. MCWA aims at raising funds and paying fees for financially challenged but academically able MA Communication students of Daystar University.

MCWA is 100% run by M.A. Communication students. The current MCWA leadership are: Dickson Mwaniki (Coordinator), Sr. Christine Masivo (treasurer), and Jeferson Nyakamba (publicity officer).  The first MCWA Coordinator was Faith Musau Mwandi who graduated in June 2014. She is currently lecturing at the University of Malawi and continues to support MCWA.

Prof. Levi Obonyo (Dean, School of Communication) and Dr. Rosemary Kowuor (Head of Communication Department) commended the initiative and promised to support MCWA achieve its objectives.

MCWA awarded the first scholarship on 14th March 2014 to Onesmus Matadi. Next scholarship will be on 14th March 2016.
