Awarding of third schorlarships on 14th March 2016

On 14th march 2016 the Master Communicators’ Welfare Association (MCWA) awarded a total of Ksh.107,000 to two deserving masters students. This was the 3rd scholarship award since 2013 when the welfare was initiated. Enid Tororei a second year student had dropped out of campus due to lack of school fees amounting to Ksh. 67,000. For this reason she was unable to sit her final exams and she had no option but to drop.

Enid’s case is not in isolation, many students join the master’s programme with hopes to complete without financial problems. However along the way, things might go wrong and they find themselves not able to raise money for school fees. The cause for this could be dismissal from job, withdraw of financial support by sponsors, business collapsing, death or sickness of financial supporters just to mention a few. MCWA is a student driven initiative meant to help fellow students who find themselves not able to raise school fees for their masters’ programme.

MCWA depends primarily on donations mostly from students, faculty and well-wishers to raise funds and support needy students. The welfare also holds fundraising activities such as luncheons and door to door mobilizations. The donations are then deposited in the welfares account after which call for partial scholarships are advertised. Applicants are then vetted and the most deserving are awarded the scholarships.

This year the welfare received tremendous support from both students and faculty. Under the leadership of MCWA’s able patroness Sr. Prof. Agnes Lucy Lando. The executive was also able to visit the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Timothy Wachira who not only give his personal contribution but also advised us on ways of raising more funds. The steering committee of the MCWA is led by the patroness Sr. Prof. Agnes Lucy Lando, the coordinator, Mr. Dickson Mwaniki, the Treasurer Sr. Christine Masivo and the Publicity officer Jeferson Nyakamba. The leadership urges all well-wishers to help in this course. For as the MCWA slogan goes, “LITTLE IS MUCH WHEN HUMANITY COOPRETES WITH GOD”
